| 抄録: | It is very common for Nikkei (Japanese emigrants and their descendants) who live inJapan to say that they came to Japan in search of their roots. A number of them then stayon in Japan. This study is based on videotaped discussions of small groups of Nikkei whoare long-term residents. The paper first discusses the topic of identity and self-concept, andthen gives a rationale for the use of narrative analysis. After transcribing excerpts of theself-introductions of six Nikkei, ten of their narratives were analyzed using Labov’sstructural framework. |
