A Short-Term Home Stay Program for OJJC Related Schools

Abstract

Although one can find reports on how schools prepare students for home stays and study abroad, on home stay's effects on language ability, and on participants' views of the home stay experience, it is difficult to find information on how home stay programs prepare to receive students and almost impossible to find articles on how host schools implement a home stay program for the first time. This paper will look at how Osaka Jogakuin Junior College (OJJC) conducted its first home stay programs for its related schools in May and June 2002. First, we will provide some background information on our relationship with our related schools. Then, we will describe the planning and scheduling process we went through paying special attention to the process of selecting and orientating home stay sisters. Finally, we will discuss what we learned from the process and how we might proceed in the future.
