| 抄録: | Back channels can include both verbal as well as physical responses. This paper will focus on verbal responses, and more specifically, on one specific acknowledgment token, "yeah, yeah, yeah." The tokens, "um hm," and "uh huh," are limited to use as "continuers" (that pass over the conversational floor). "Yeah," on the other hand, can be used as either a continuer, or a means to take the floor. This pilot study examines the function of the listener's repetition of the "yeah" token in the same turn (yeah, yeah, yeah). Speakership incipiency (taking the conversational floor) and recipiency (passing the floor over) is the main focus, but other functions are also included. These results are examined, and possible explanations for the findings are suggested. |
