<研究ノート>Working Together : The Development of a Study Abroad Video

Abstract

This paper describes the process that we went through to produce a study abroad video, highlighting problems and challenges that we had to overcome. This project is especially interesting in that a part-time management staff member and a junior faculty member were given the responsibility to work independently with an outside production company to produce a promotion video. The production company did not have experience working in English. The staff member is a Japanese female; the faculty member is a native English speaking male. The production company staff were all Japanese males. Given these parameters the context was ripe for miscommunication-both interculturally, and inter-departmentally. The value of this paper is that it allows readers an opportunity to take a moment and think critically about collaborative work projects/processes. Too often in our busy schedules as we create new curriculums, as we try to incorporate new technologies, and/or attempt to develop new programs, we do not take the time to look at the process we go through.
