<研究ノート>Raising students' motivation through CALL : A Case Study

Abstract

This case study will recount a teacher's frustration in accommodating students of low motivation and a successful attempt to redesign the syllabus of a year-long course in progress to better meet their interests. Expecting that learning to use a computer might prove to be a motivating force toward productive English language study, the teacher decided to introduce instruction in basic computing skills, particularly transmitting e-mail, in the middle of the first semester. With a focus on classroom application, rather than technical aspects of CALL (computer-assisted language learning), this case study explores reasons for the students' low motivation, their educational interests and needs, the effect of CALL on elevating their level of motivation, and ways to help improve their writing skills through CALL.
