The use of music in the ESL classroom

Abstract

Of great importance to the second language teacher is the atmosphere of the ESL classroom. Since language learning can be a stressful experience for many students, it is of much concern to the teacher that the students' affective barriers to language learning be minimized as much as possible in order to better facilitate language acquisition. This paper will show how the use of music in the ESL classroom is an effective method to reduce the level of anxiety in students and thus enhance second language acquisition.
