Providing Feedback in Moodle Question Bank Items

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent changes to the delivery of education made it clear that the learning management system (LMS) used at an institution must be integrated into the class. This paper introduces one of the most useful but least utilized features of the Moodle LMS, feedback on responses, and provides a guide to creating a question bank. This question bank can then be drawn upon for practice activities with appropriate feedback provided for incorrect answers, considered essential for positive learning outcomes in second language education (e.g., Lavolette et al., 2015). Moreover, a question bank, with its ability to randomly generate items, allows each student to receive unique practices and quizzes. This paper reviews the use of LMS, with a focus on the pandemic demands on teachers, examines the role of feedback in language teaching, and provides a guide to using the Moodle LMS feedback function in questions banks.
